Law Enforcement Fatalities Surge 43 Percent In First Half of 2010

The number of U.S. law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty surged nearly 43 percent during the first half of 2010, according to preliminary data released by the NLEOMF. Fatal shootings and traffic-related deaths have increased sharply from 2009 and California, Texas, and Florida have experienced the most fatalities.

While leaving a police building at about 3:45 p.m., the officer was shot in the head, while trying to stop a robbery attempt. The incident happened at 61st and Racine outside of the facility used by the department's targeted response and gang enforcement units.

Dallas Chief's Son Shot Officer, According to Source

Wearing only boxer shorts, sunglasses, and no shoes, David Brown Jr. shot and killed a man who pulled into the complex with his wife and children. Brown had been behaving erratically. He later shot Lancaster Officer Craig Shaw, the first officer to respond to the scene.
