The deputy was shot about 5 a.m., but there is no word what led to the incident. Police say the injured Union County, N.C., sheriff's deputy was taken to Carolinas Medical Center, and that his injuries are not life-threatening. Police radio reports indicate the deputy was shot in the shoulder.
