Delaware State Police Start Maritime Unit with 2 Vessels

The Delaware State Police have established a maritime unit with two new vessels to patrol the state's 100 miles of waterways. The state police are using a $1.6 million federal grant for port security to fund the effort, which employs three full-time troopers.

With a crew of four, the test vessel has a range of 400 nautical miles, deploying for up to 10 hours at a cruising speed of 40 knots. The vessel can reach a top speed of 65 knots, or 75 miles per hour.
