Miss. Capt. Struck, Killed Deploying Spike Strips

A Grenada (Miss.) Police officer deploying spike strips to stop a stolen vehicle was struck and killed by that vehicle. Capt. John Haddock died at the scene on Mississippi Highway 8 near the intersection of Interstate 55.

Rookie Mississippi Officer Shot and Killed By Detainee

Officer Glen Agee was shot twice in the face after struggling with the detainee who he was transporting in the back of his patrol car to a detention facility. It is suspected Agee was shot with his own service weapon.

Hemphill Wins Record Eighth NRA National Police Championship

The 44th NRA National Police Shooting Championships (NPSC) were held at a brand new range and drew many new competitors, but the national champion was an old familiar face. Lt. Philip Hemphill of the Mississippi Highway Patrol shot a score of 2988-197X, out of a possible 3000-300X, to win a record eighth title in this police pistol combat event.
