To prevent explosions that can result from vehicle collisions that rupture fuel tanks, Scottsdale, Ariz.-based FIRE Panel LLC designed a protective shield containing a powdered fire-extinguishing agent, which is mounted on or near a vehicle’s fuel tank. The panel is molded from General Electric’s Noryl resin, allowing the shield to shatter upon significant impact yet maintain its integrity under normal conditions.
