Victory Police Motorcycles

Vehicle OpsPhotos 13

Victory Motorcycles, a division of Polaris, has introduced three new motorcycles into the police market for 2012—the Commander I, Commander II, and Vision. The touring-type bikes are conversions of the civilian Victory models Cross Country, Cross Roads, and Vision Tour respectively. The distinctively styled bikes have been upfitted for police use, tested in Michigan and Los Angeles by precision LE drivers, and adopted by several smaller agencies. Victory reps tout the officer-safety features on the cycles.

The Vision emphasizes cargo capacity with an extra 29-gallon trunk.

The Commander I has been adopted by police departments in Pasadena, Calif.; Lenexa, Kan.; and Plant City, Fla. (pictured).

The Commander I (pictured) arrives with a batwing fairing, while the Commander II gets windshield glass.

The bikes arrive with an Apple 30-pin connector in the "top box" for an iPhone or iPod.

The bikes arrive with civilian saddle bags outfitted with an electronic-locking gun kit that fits an M4 or shotgun (up to 16-inch barrel), and includes a pouch for two 30-round magazines.

The Commander II arrives with a windshield rather than a batwing fairing.

The bikes include a handle-mounted helmet lock, allowing the officer to secure a helmet to investigate a scene.

The left handle grip includes volume controls for emergency lights, siren, and a connected iPod.

The Commander I is designed with what the company calls "integrated tip-over protection" to help keep it from falling on its side and injuring the officer. The bike will fall no further than 34 degrees and keeps its wheels on the roadway.

The Commander I, which is powered by a 106cc V-twin, generates 97 hp. The engine is air and oil cooled, and arrives with a multi-plate wet clutch.

The Commander I (and II) arrive equipped with "alley lights" that enable a motor officer to gain better visibility at night in dark areas.

The Vision arrives with a full fixed fairing and luxuty-minded body styling.

The gauge cluster includes activation lights showing power and a display for iPod controls.
