Steven Seagal: Lawman

PatrolPhotos 7

In his movies, Steven Seagal usually plays a special agent or cop with martial-arts skills who, when pushed to the edge by baddies, responds with deadly force. Turns out, Seagal knows more about law enforcement that we thought. For the past two decades, he's been working as a fully commissioned deputy with the Jefferson Parish (La.) Sheriff's Office. Here are a few images from his new police reality show, "Steven Seagal: Lawman," which debuts Dec. 2 on A&E. Images courtesy of A&E.

Steven Seagal searches a vehicle while on patrol in a new A&E series that features the martial arts star and fully commissioned sheriff's deputy.

Each 30-minute episode features Seagal and his "hand-selected elite team of deputies" as they respond to crimes-in-progress, according to the show annoncement. When Seagal goes off duty, the cameras continue following him into other facets of his life as a musician and philanthropist.

Seagal is a highly skilled martial artist with a seventh-degree black belt in aikido (Nico Toscanini in "Above The Law" had reached sixth-degree). He has offered instruction to Jefferson Parish officers in hand-to-hand combat.

Until now, Seagal hasn't sought attention for his LE work. "I've been working as an officer in Jefferson Parish for two decades under most people's radar," said Seagal in the show's announcement. "I've decided to work with A&E on this series now because I believe it's important to show the nation the positive work being accomplished here in the New Orleans area — to see the passion, commitment and fine police work that comes from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office in this post-Katrina environment."

For almost 20 years, Seagal has been working as a fully commissioned deputy who goes out on patrol with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office in Louisiana. The show credits Seagal as an expert marksman who has worked with their SWAT team during firearms training.
