Pinellas County (Fla.) Sheriff's Sgt. Raymond Fleming was among the deputies who pursued Kentin Dion Brooks during his campaign of vehicular terror. Dep. Jeffrey Newman performed the PIT maneuver on the black Mustang, and then Brooks opened up on the officers with a 9mm handgun from behind tinted windows. Sgt. Fleming fired his Glock 21 chambered in .45 ACP that ripped nearly 1-inch-wide holes in the Mustang.

Brooks' 9mm handgun was recovered from his vehicle following the shooting.

One of Brooks' rounds struck a deputy's takedown spotlight.

View looking north. After deputies performed the PIT maneuver, Brooks' Mustang jumped a curb and came to rest under a lightpost along the east side of Gulf Boulevard.

Because the deputies returned fire from inside and near their vehicles, ejected cartridges struck the vehicles and landed (in this instance) near the windshield wipers.

Responding deputies engaged Brooks from the north, after coming under fire from a Brooks volley.

Suspect Brooks reached speeds exceeding 90 mph on city streets with his Ford Mustang. He seemed to provoke officers who broke off the pursuit several times for safety reasons.

The investigation showed the various trajectories of bullets that penetrated Brooks' Ford Mustang.

Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies fired 39 rounds, which tore into the side panels and shattered the tinted windows of Brooks' black Mustang.

After deputies performed the PIT maneuver, Brooks' Mustang spinned and jumped a curb. The impact nearly tore away his left, rear wheel.

Dep. John Randall initially exited his cruiser to return fire, and Sgt. Fleming pulled him back into the vehicle for his own safety.

Pinellas County SO's Sgt. Raymond Fleming stopped just north of Brooks' vehicle and returned fire with other deputies after rounds struck a cruiser.

Brooks suffered severe headaches after participating in a 2009 nightclub brawl that short-circuited his fledgling career as a hip-hop artist and promoter.
