Motorola's Connected Patrol Car

TechnologyPhotos 5

Motorola Solutions unveiled its concept of a next-generation patrol vehicle at a July press event that brings many new communications capabilities to field officers. Motorola's Chevy Caprice includes an LTE broadband modem, steering wheel controls for radio communication, and voice-command technology. Video processing technology optimizes in-car video streaming into and out of the vehicle.

Motorola built a patrol vehicle with next-gen communication technology, including a push-to-talk (PTT) button built into the steering wheel, multiple cameras providing views around the vehicle, and an integrated console that controls the lights, sirens, PA system, gun lock and the radio.

The capabilities of the patrol car are controlled by four devices installed in the trunk: the APX 7500 Mobile Radio (right); the MVX1000 In-Car Video System (left); the MW810 Mobile Workstation (middle); and the VML700 LTE Vehicle Modem (upper left).

The Motorola Push-To-Talk steering-wheel control allows officers to use their radio while keeping both hands on the steering wheel.

Motorola built its next-gen mobile communications center to showcase the possibilities for the connected officer.

The cockpit includes integrated technologies such as PTT on the steering wheel; a control head that operates the radio, siren, lights, and gun locks; streaming video into and out of the patrol car; automatic license plate recognition; voice activation; and CAD with records and mapping support. There's still plenty of room in the front passenger seat.
