Public safety computing tools are now available for desktops, laptops, and mobile devices. The following is a look at some of the products that were released before the IACP conference.

Spillman Technologies introduced its new map-based analytics tool right before this year’s IACP. Using Spillman Analytics, field personnel and supervisors can initiate queries from a map, then dig into the data, determine crime trends, and plan responses. Another aspect of Spillman Analytics is the CrimeMonitor community map that the public can access via the Web to see crime trends and submit anonymous tips.

NetMotion Wireless has added a cloud-based solution to its Locality mobile broadband troubleshooting software. Locality provides law enforcement agencies and other mobile broadband users with a tool for measuring the network’s performance. The software measures and monitors cellular network performance, applications, devices, and users, providing an IT staff with visual insight into how the network is functioning. Armed with this information agencies can discuss the performance with their carriers or find the cause of the problem in their own hardware.

IBM’s i2 Coplink is an analytical tool used by agencies to consolidate data from a variety of sources. The software aids collaboration between agencies and helps analysts generate tactical leads. Investigators can even use the software to generate lineups. IBM i2 Coplink helps officers discover investigative case leads, analyze data on maps, centralize multiple data stores, and share data with other agencies. It can be used on a desktop, laptop, or mobile device.

The new Collision Reporting tool from Appriss was developed to help law enforcement agencies determine traffic trouble spots so they can be eliminated or their toll can be mitigated. User Col. Steve Wagner, chief deputy of the Hendricks County (Ind.) Sheriff’s Office, says the software has “vastly improved” the agency’s ability to collect, submit, and analyze crash data.

TASER International has released a mobile app that allows users of its Evidence.com evidence management software to view data such as digital still photos, documents, dashcam videos, and video from TASER Axon cameras on smartphones and tablets. Available through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, features of Evidence Mobile include: photo, audio, and video capture; annotation and titling of files; ability to upload files to Evidence.com; metadata management; and evidence tracking with GPS location tagging.
