Special police badges have become a more common sight especially in larger agencies. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department issues anniversary badges every five years to boost officer morale and honor the agency's heritage. The agency emerged in 1973 from a merger of the Las Vegas Police Department and Clark County Sheriff's Department. The agency also produced a 9/11 badge commemorating the officers who helped in New York. Las Vegas Police Anniversary Badges

The 35th anniversary badge in 2008 was modeled after the old Clark County Sheriff's badge. This was to remember the contribution the Clark County Sheriff's Office made in forming the Las Vegas Metro PD.

The 30th anniversary badge in 2003 was modeled after a Las Vegas Police sergeant badge. This was to remember the contribution the Las Vegas Police Department made in forming the Las Vegas Metro PD.

The 9/11 tenth anniversary badge was to remember 9-11 and pay tribute to the public safety personnel that lost their lives and honor the Las Vegas Metro PD officers who traveled to New York just after the disaster.

The 25th anniversary badge was Sun's first anniversary badge for the agency in 1998. The badge was supposed to be a keepsake and not worn on the uniform. When Sheriff Jerry Keller saw the finished product, it was approved for wear. The Metro badge on the shield was to make sure everyone would recognize it as an official badge.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Las Vegas Metro PD. The "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign is featured at the center of the badge.
