Although the Daniel Defense M4, or DDM4, is a factory rifle, it looks like it was built by a custom shop. This carbine ships with quad fore rails, a removable backup sight, Magpul MOE adjustable stock, Daniel Defense vertical fore grip, a flared/beveled trigger guard, a flared mag well, and a Magpul 30-round PMAG.

A rugged fixed, detachable backup iron sight co-witnesses with most red-dot optics. Should the sight fail, you are still ready to keep fighting with the iron sights and nothing has to be moved. If you are going to mount a magnifying optic, an ACOG, or variable power combat optic, you'll need to install a folding rear sight.

The Daniel Defense M4 is ready for duty right out of the box. It ships in a solid polymer gun case, not one of those flimsy ones you might have encountered elsewhere. The black case has the words "Daniel Defense" molded into it, which adds a bit of flair.

Bushnell's TRS-25 1X atop an A.R.M.S. mount makes for a fast, accurate, and easily removed setup. The TRS-25 is dry-nitrogen filled and features multi-coated optics, an amber-bright high contrast lens coating, 100 percent waterproof/fogproof/shockproof construction, and a CR2032 battery.

Lancer's translucent L5 magazines are easy to load and easy to take apart for cleaning, provided you use Lancer's magazine tool. You can even install magazine pads in different colors (flat dark earth, olive green, and pink). Black is standard.

Surrounding the barrel is a Daniel Defense Omega X 12 FSP quad rail system. The left and right sides of the rail come equipped with quick detail swivel attachment points. This will allow for ambidextrous mounting of a three-point sling. To protect the rails and your hands, low-profile rail guards are factory standard.

The trigger of the DDM4 is crisp and breaks cleanly at four pounds. This coupled with the tight fit of the receivers and quality barrel makes this M4 wicked accurate.

Daniel Defense's DDM4 comes with a Magpul MOE adjustable stock, which is a great choice for a couple of reasons. First, it uses a Mil-Spec recoil tube, which is just a smidge larger and more rugged than a commercial one. Next, the stock is designed to fit the operator with a rugged polymer butt pad. This butt pad doesn't slide on slick tactical vests or nylon shirts.

Securing the stock to the receiver is a Daniel Defense QD Swivel Attachment. This allows you to mount a one- or three-point sling and is ambidextrous. It features a central quick release for a single-point attachment.
