Bushmaster Adaptive Combat Rifle (ACR)

WeaponsPhotos 7

Take a closer look at the Bushmaster ACR "modular" rifle, which will be offered in law enforcement versions known as the Patrol and Special Purpose. Our photo gallery gives you a closer look at an innovative patrol or tactical rifle offering an alternative to other AR-type patrol rifles. A Remington version will be offered to federal law enforcement. Read our news item about the availability of the Bushmaster ACR .

The 7000 Series aluminum "upper" receiver includes a free-floating MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny top rail to mount a variety of optics or lights.

The Bushmaster ACR is "adaptive" in that changes can be quickly made to barrel length and caliber so the rifle is tailored to the operator and mission. The rifle also contains several ambidextrous components (magazine release and bolt-catch release) that can be switched to accomodate left- or right-hand operators.

The ACR is available with either a fixed or folding (pictured) buttstock and can be operated out of either configuration. Remember your paratrooper training? It may apply, when you use the rifle in folding-stock mode.

The Bushmaster ACR is also available to law enforcement in a Special Purpose version, which is similar to the Enhanced ACR offered to the public. Of course, it also includes a fully auto mode, as well as a single-point hook sling. The company is marketing the black-finish version to law enforcement; a spokesman said a few agencies have asked for Coyote Earth and OD Green.

The rifle's lower receiver includes a selector switch for safety, one-shot or fully automatic modes. Law enforcement buyers get three 30-round Magpul PMAG magazines, which fit (one at a time) into the textured magazine well.

The Bushmaster ACR—once known as the Magpul Masada—was developed in a partnership between Bushmaster, Remington, and Magpul. This version is the Patrol, which will be offered exclusively to law enforcement. It's similar to the Basic civilian version, except it offers a fully auto firing mode and two-point push button sling.

The tri-rail hand guard arrives with a heat shield and rail inserts to keep heat away from the operator's front hand.
