On Sunday afternoon Jan. 12, deputies from the Livingston County (Michigan) Sheriff’s Officer used a PIT maneuver to end a vehicle pursuit of a wanted suspect and discovered that the driver had cut his own neck.

The incident, which occurred in Marion Township shortly before 1 p.m., began when the deputies spotted a man who was wanted on felony warrants, the sheriff’s office said in a release on Facebook.

When deputies attempted to stop the 39-year-old suspect, the man drove away in his 2024 Chevy Impala, the release says.

Deputies approached the stopped Impala and found the driver with self-inflicted knife wounds to his neck, the sheriff’s office said.

“Deputies quickly removed the driver from the car and began performing live-saving measures, which included wound packing and trauma bandages. Livingston County EMS arrived quickly and took the driver to U of M Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery,” the sheriff’s office said.
