A Texas deputy sheriff, a school district police officer, and three juveniles were injured when a gun discharged during a struggle Thursday afternoon.
Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the report of about 200 juveniles fighting Thursday afternoon, the sheriff’s office told ABC8.
Among the agencies responding was the Forney Independent School District, and according to the sheriff’s office, one of the juveniles tried to disarm a school officer, causing a weapon to discharge. The injuries to multiple people were caused by shrapnel.
The deputy and juveniles were treated at an area hospital, and the school officer was treated at the scene. All injuries were said to be non-life-threatening, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office reported it is unclear whose gun discharged, and the school district said none of its officers fired.
The Texas Rangers will investigate the shooting, and the sheriff’s office will investigate the struggle over the gun that discharged.
