Tuesday morning, around 9:50 a.m., two officers responded to the call and from the front door could see a woman inside with her hands tied behind her back.
The officers entered the home and spotted a male suspect in the kitchen. One officer moved to take him into custody. While the other officer moving to help the woman, another man appeared from a back room and shot him.
Officer S. Durfee, who has served with the department since January 2016, was shot in the leg and returned fire, but did not strike the gunman.
In the video, Dufree is heard telling the other officer he was shot in the right leg and asks for a tourniquet, which the officer provided. Later in the video, the officer returned to assist Dufree with the tourniquet application.
The wounded officer was taken to an area hospital where he was treated and released.
After the exchange of gunfire, the suspected shooter fled from the home on foot. Police said a third suspect was waiting in a car outside the home but fled as well.
The suspect who fled on foot was apprehended about a block away from the residence and Houston SWAT later located the suspect who had fled in a vehicle and took him into custody without incident, according to police .
Raymond Perez, 35, the suspected shooter, is charged with aggravated assault against a public servant, aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and unlawful carrying of a weapon in the 230th State District Court. Two other suspects, Michael Perez, 38, and Brian A. Garcia Chavez, 18, are charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon in the same court.
The incident is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
