The motorcyclist who was fleeing from a Georgia state trooper who was killed in a crash during the pursuit has now pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide in the death of Trooper Jimmy Cenescar.
Pursuit Suspect Pleads Guilty in GA Trooper’s Death
The man who faced multiple charges in connection with a Georgia state trooper’s death during a pursuit entered a guilty plea and will serve 17 years in prison. Trooper Jimmy Cenescar died following a crash while in pursuit of a motorcyclist in January.

The 21-year-old motorcyclist responsible for the death of Trooper Jimmy Cenescar entered a guilty plea to vehicular homicide. Cenescar died in a crash while in pursuit on Jan. 28 in Gwinnett County, Georgia.
Georgia Department of Public Safety
Gerson Danilo Ayala-Rodriguez, 21, entered the guilty plea Wednesday as part of a plea deal and will now serve 17 years of the 20-year sentence incarcerated. He was also convicted on misdemeanor charges of reckless driving, speeding, two counts each of driving without a license, operating a vehicle without insurance, and operating an unregistered vehicle, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
On Jan. 28, Cenescar attempted to stop Ayala-Rodriguez for a traffic violation on I-85, but the motorcyclist refused to stop. According to the Georgia Department of Public Safety, he reached 140 mph while attempting to outrun the trooper.
The trooper lost control of his Dodge Charger, which then hit a guardrail, a sign, multiple trees, drainage rocks, and eventually a retaining wall at the bottom of an embankment. Cenescar, 28, died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Trooper First Class Chase Redner led the investigation into Cenescar’s fatal crash; however, he, too, was killed while on duty just weeks later. Redner, 31, was killed when he was hit by a vehicle as he investigated a fatal crash on I-75 in Clayton County.
