Off-Duty North Carolina Deputy Rescues Driver from Sinking SUV

An off-duty Durham County, North Carolina, Sheriff’s deputy who was working at a shopping center Monday rescued a driver from a sinking SUV after he was alerted to the emergency by a good Samaritan.
Corporal P. Clark went to the scene and saw a white SUV in the water under an overpass. “The vehicle was occupied by a driver who was trapped inside due to the rising water from flash flooding conditions earlier Monday afternoon,” the sheriff’s office said on Facebook.
Corporal Clark waded into the water and was aided by a civilian in breaking a window on the vehicle. The deputy then dove into the water and pushed the driver to the surface, the sheriff’s office said. The civilian helped pull the deputy to the surface.
No one was injured in the incident.
The driver told the deputy that he misjudged the depth of the water and became stuck. He was unable to open the door.”
He said he was grateful for the assistance of Deputy Clark and the men who came to his aid. The
“Sheriff’s Office is grateful to the two men who assisted, without their help, this incident may have had a tragic outcome,” the Facebook statement said.
