When a Bristol, Vermont, officer tried to avoid hitting downed powerlines and a pole, his patrol vehicle left the roadway and overturned, rolling about 30 feet down an embankment. The officer was treated and released at an area hospital.
According to the Vermont State Police, Officer Armin Nukic was patrolling Monkton during a period of heavy rain and flooding roadways Wednesday when he encountered powerlines and a pole that were downed and blocking the road.
As Nukic tried to keep from hitting the utility pole and wires, his Bristol Police Department 2018 Ford Explorer left the road onto the shoulder. State police say because of the heavy rains, the roadway shoulder collapsed under the weight of the SUV.
Investigators report the SUV, with the officer inside, overturned and rolled down the embankment. They said the patrol vehicle sustained damage to the sides and the roof, but Nukic was able to exit the Explorer following the 11:54 p.m. incident.
Nukic was transported to Porter Medical Center as a precaution and later released.
