GA Officer Saved by Ballistic Vest

A Georgia officer was saved by his ballistic vest when he was shot in the chest after responding to a fight call at a restaurant. The suspected gunman fled and later was shot by another officer but survived.

When Morrow, Georgia, police responded to a dispute outside a restaurant Wednesday night, a single shot was fired at officers. One officer was shot in the chest but was saved by his ballistic vest.

Officer Myron Bell was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and was still hospitalized the following morning, but police told FOX5 he was expected to be okay.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), which the Morrow Police Department to investigate the officer-involved shooting, identified the gunman as Keon Devon Christian, 26, of McDonough, and provided details of the incident in a press release.

According to the GBI, during a fight on the patio of the restaurant, Christian revealed he had a firearm in his waistband.

When officers arrived, they encountered him outside the restaurant and that is when the GBI said Christian fired at an officer, hitting the officer in his ballistic vest. Following that, Christian ran behind the restaurant and through a parking lot.

A second Morrow officer encountered the suspected gunman and fired, hitting Christian. The GBI reported a gun was found near where he was shot. A second Morrow officer was injured, but the GBI provided no details other than he was treated and released at an area hospital.

The Morrow Police Department charged Christian with aggravated assault on a peace officer and criminal attempt to commit murder.
