Georgia Officer Struck by Vehicle and Critically Injured while Directing Traffic

The 18-year veteran of law enforcement suffered a fractured hip, several broken ribs, a fractured fibula, fractures in his spine, and bruised lungs. He is in critical but stable condition at a local hospital.

A Hampton, Georgia, police officer was struck by a vehicle around 10:30 p.m. and critically injured Monday while directing traffic for a Georgia Department of Transportation project.

Officer Duane Jones, 39, was hit by a vehicle while outside of his patrol unit.

The 18-year veteran of law enforcement suffered a fractured hip, several broken ribs, a fractured fibula, fractures in his spine, and bruised lungs. He is in critical but stable condition at a local hospital.

Georgia State Patrol is investigating the accident. The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports no charges are pending.

The identity of the driver of the vehicle that struck Officer Jones has not been released.
