The El Paso Police Department has released body camera footage from an officer-involved shooting in El Paso's Upper Valley earlier this month.

The incident occurred just after 1 a.m. on March 5 when a patrol supervisor approached an apparently disabled Ford Mustang parked at a carwash.

In the video posted on social media by the El Paso Police Department on March 23, body cam video shows the officer making contact with a male, who police have identified as 30-year-old Michael Anthony Estrada, KFOX reports.

Estrada appears agitated in the video and can’t find his ID. He tells the officer he is frustrated about the car. He said he was living in the vehicle and was homeless.

After rummaging around in his car apparently looking for his ID, the man comes up with a handgun. He even said, “It’s a gun,” when the officer asked what is in his hand.

Estrada told the officer to back off and asked,  “Do you want to go home tonight?” He repeats that question and makes other implied threats while the officer tries to defuse the situation.

Eventually, the officer opens fire. Estrada died at the scene.

The El Paso Police Department's crimes against person unit, internal affairs, and the Texas Rangers are still investigating.
