A Michigan State Police patrol car carrying a person who had just been arrested was involved in a multi-vehicle crash on I-75 Wednesday evening, according to MSP.

The trooper and the prisoner were transported to a hospital. "Both of them sustained lacerations to their face and the trooper a possible broken arm," MSP said. No other injuries were reported, Fox 2 reports.

Around 6:30 p.m., a 16-year-old driver "drifted onto the right shoulder" and struck the patrol car, which was then pushed into the arrestee's vehicle, MSP Second District said on X (formerly Twitter).

"We are very fortunate that the injuries in this crash were not more serious, or even fatal," MSP Lt. Mike Shaw said. "The one message we can take from this crash is to wear your seatbelt when in the car. It will save your life."
