Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums will swear in the city's new police chief at the City Council meeting today, SFGate.com reports.
Anthony Batts, 49, formerly the police chief in Long Beach, replaces Wayne Tucker, who retired in February. Batts will earn $255,000 a year for three years.
Batts served as chief in Long Beach for the past seven years; crime is the lowest in that city since the mid-1970s.
