Ralph L. Godbee Jr., a 23-year veteran of the Detroit Police Department and former assistant police chief, was named interim chief last month after Mayor Dave Bing ousted then-Police Chief Warren Evans.
Godbee is one of the candidates for the job on a more permanent basis.
In a Q&A with the Detroit Free Press, Godbee says he'd like the city's officers to live in Detroit, expresses support for convicted murderer Raphael Johnson for the Detroit Board of Police Commissioners, and urges greater community partnerships, because "we cannot arrest our way out of the crime problem."
