California Chief Clarifies Water-Nozzle Shooting

Douglas Zerby, 35, was fatally shot Dec. 12, when he pointed the nozzle at officers who responded to a neighbor's 911 call of a man with a gun on a porch landing.

The accounts given by Long Beach (Calif.) Police officers are consistent with autopsy results in the officer-involved shooting of a man who pointed a water nozzle at officers, Chief Jim McDonnell announced.

Douglas Zerby, 35, was fatally shot Dec. 12, when he pointed the nozzle at officers who responded to a neighbor's 911 call of a man with a gun on a porch landing.

Zerby was hit 12 times with shotgun pellets and bullets from a handgun and was grazed three times, the Los Angeles Times reports.
