Long Beach (Calif.) Police have arrested a 41-year-old woman believed to have swiped an 800-year-old religious relic from a local church.
The relic (seen above behind glass) is a silver-and-gold-plated, Gothic-style ornament that measures about 16 inches tall and 10 inches wide at its widest point.
Officers arrested Maria Solis on Thursday, after viewing surveillance video from a nearby business and interviewing witnesses who noticed Solis acting suspiciously outside of Saint Anthony's Church, at 540 Olive Ave., on Monday, the day of the theft. The artifact was recovered.
The motive for the theft is still unknown. Solis was booked in the Long Beach PD's jail and released due to a medical condition.
