Video: Ohio Sgt. Struck, Killed Laying Stop Sticks

Sgt. Brian Dulle, 36, was setting up stop sticks at State Route 42 and Utica Road further south. The suspect's vehicle struck Sgt. Dulle, killing him instantly, Sheriff Larry Sims said during a media briefing.

A Warren County (Ohio) Sheriff's deputy was struck and killed early Tuesday morning by a reckless driver while laying down stop sticks to halt a high-speed pursuit.

The incident began shortly before 2 a.m., when Franklin Police officers began pursuing a speeding driver heading east on State Route 73 toward Waynesville. The vehicle turned south on State Route 42 and began traveling in the northbound lanes, running a Warren County Sheriff's deputy off the road and nearly striking a second deputy's cruiser.

At the time, Sgt. Brian Dulle, 36, was setting up stop sticks at State Route 42 and Utica Road further south. The suspect's vehicle struck Sgt. Dulle, killing him instantly, Sheriff Larry Sims said during a media briefing.

A person was taken into custody about 1 mile from the location. Sgt. Dulle, a member of the U.S. Army, had worked with the sheriff's office since 1999. He is survived by his wife and three children.
