West Memphis (Ark.) Police Chief Bob Paudert, who lost his son and another officer in a roadside gunfight with two sovereign citizens, is stepping down to educate law enforcement groups about the dangers of sovereign citizens.
Chief Paudert, who has been a law enforcement officer for 44 years, said he decided to leave his job after officers Brandon Paudert and Bill Evans were fatally shot at a traffic stop in May of 2010.
The officers had pulled over sovereign citizens Jerry and son Joseph Kane. Joe Kane ambushed the officers with an AK-47 rifle. Wildlife Officer Michael K. Neal of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission eventually stopped the two from killing more people by ramming his truck into their vehicle.
