VIDEO: Army Vet Rams Cruisers In Vegas

The NAACP in Las Vegas and the ACLU of Nevada want a federal investigation of the Las Vegas Metro Police Department, after the shooting of an unarmed Gulf War veteran who had rammed patrol cars.

Las Vegas Metro Police officers were forced to use deadly force early Monday against Stanley Gibson, who rammed the cruisers of officers who had responded to reports of a burglary at an apartment complex.

Witness video (click on the above photo to view) shows officers firing into Gibson's white sedan after it spins its wheels.

Gibson was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. He was suffering from cancer he blamed on his Army service, had recently had his Veterans Affairs disability payments reduced, and was due for sentencing on an assault charge after an argument with a Veterans Affairs doctor, reports the Associated Press.

"Following the 12th fatal shooting by officers of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the ACLU of Nevada and the NAACP are calling on the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate Metro's use of deadly force," according to a statement on the ACLU's website.

The groups want the U.S. Department of Justice to complete a "pattern or practice" of behavior probe of the agency that would evaluate departmental policies, procedures, and training.
