Keith Terry, a communications tower worker whose life plummeted after a drunken trip to the Iowa State Fair last year, will spend up to seven years in prison for drunkenly running down a Des Moines police officer.
Terry was severely intoxicated on Aug. 19 when his pickup truck ran a red light and stuck Officer Phoukham Tran in the intersection of East 30th Street and Grand Avenue. The force of the collision knocked Tran 47 feet and left the intersection littered with bullets and pieces of a broken flashlight.
Tran suffered a punctured lung, broken ribs and a stroke in addition to serious head injuries. Terry's blood-alcohol level was determined to be 0.264, more than three times the legal limit.
