A Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper who was struck by gunfire from a car-load of narcotics suspects returned fire, killing one and wounding a second suspect.

Corporal Shane Stewart was struck in the neck after he and a partner pulled over a red SUV at 10 p.m. Saturday that was heading north on Interstate 55 in New Madrid County, reports KFVS .

The three suspects arrested following the gunfire have been charged with second-degree murder, possession of marijuana, and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
