A Northern Cambria, Pa., man attempted to rob a Pennsylvania bank for $1 in hopes that he would be sent to a federal prison near his home.
Jeffrey McMullen, a 50-year-old regular customer of an AmeriServ bank, allegedly handed notes to two tellers demanding a dollar, reports the Tribune-Democrat.
In one note, McMullen politely wrote, "Federal bank robbery. Please hand over $1.00."
The first teller recognized McMullen and reportedly thought it was a joke, telling him to go to a second teller. The second teller also thought it was a joke and began walking away, when McMullen got angry and told her to "to give him the money so no one got hurt."
