A jury found two suspects not guilty of shooting a Pennsylvania police officer during a 2011 home invasion that left Officer James Kuzak paralyzed.
Marcus Andrejco, 19, was cleared of all charges. The jury found Emilio Rivera, 27, guilty of burglary and multiple counts of robbery, unlawful restraint and recklessly endangering another person in the home invasion.
Defense attorneys claimed police bungled the investigation, failed to collect evidence, and let two men identified by a witness go free when they presented an alibi, reports the Pittsburgh Tribune Review.
A female juror told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette the prosecution "did a very poor job." She questioned the processing of the crime scene, the search for the weapon used to shoot Officer Kuzak, and the checking of alibis.
