A Sedgwick County (Kan.) Sheriff's deputy tells dispatchers he's been hit and can't see out of one eye in radio traffic from a Monday shooting that followed a high-speed pursuit.
The deputy, who has not been identified, attempted to pull over a white Cadillac with two suspects. The suspects sped up, causing the deputy to activate his emergency equipment.
The pursuit reached speeds of up to 120 mph and ended in Butler County after the suspects ditched their vehicle along a dirt farm road. The suspects ran between hedgerows and fired at responding officers, reports the Wichita Eagle.
The deputy was struck by shotgun fire. A Kansas trooper who responded to the pursuit shot and wounded the Cadillac's driver, 35-year-old Jason C. Perez, who was taken into custody along with the second suspect, 27-year-old Clara Crosser.
Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeff English told media outlets he would release additional information after investigators could finish interviewing the witnesses.
