Female law enforcement officers say that crime isn't the only thing they fight on a daily basis. Sometimes, their toughest battles are with each other. And that, they say, needs to stop, reports the Dallas Morning News.
"We're not very nice to each other. We need to get over this. Together we are stronger than we are separated," Dallas police Lt. Pam Starr said.
Starr spoke this week to about 120 fellow officers who gathered for the inaugural Women in Law Enforcement Conference sponsored by the North Richland Hills (Texas) Police Department. Despite gains in recent years, women still make up only a small fraction of top positions in the male-dominated law enforcement field.
Speakers at the two-day conference, which ended Wednesday, urged their comrades to work together to change that.
But simply adding more women to the ranks isn't enough, Starr said. Female officers should be rising within their own law enforcement agencies — and helping each other to do it.
