Video: Phoenix Officer Creates Superhero Event to Empower Abused Children
“These children are superheroes to us when they come here and tell us what’s happened in their lives. The abuse that they have undertaken, the things that are happening to them, it takes a lot for them to do that,” Sean Reavie, Phoenix Police detective and event organizer, said.

The Phoenix Fire and Police departments are teaming up this month for “Superhero September,” benefiting the non-profit Childhelp. Childhelp works with 600 kids each month who are victims of child abuse.
“These children are superheroes to us when they come here and tell us what’s happened in their lives. The abuse that they have undertaken, the things that are happening to them, it takes a lot for them to do that,” Sean Reavie, Phoenix Police detective and event organizer, said.
Throughout the month of September, Reavie will be working with the community to collect donations of superhero items such as toys, comics, posters, shirts and costumes.
“I want to be able to empower them so when they go into a playroom, I want them to see superhero-related tools, Lego sets, movies and coloring books. When every child leaves here they are going to get their favorite superhero t-shirt, coloring book, action figure, and movie and some comic books to take home,” Reavie told KTVK TV .
From now until September 30, anyone can donate superhero items to Childhelp at any Phoenix Police precinct or fire station.
