Video: South Carolina Deputy Shot in Head, Suspect Killed
Greenville County, SC, Sheriff Steve Loftis said a deputy is expected to be OK after being shot in the head early Thursday morning while responding to a possible robbery at an apartment complex.

Greenville County, SC, Sheriff Steve Loftis said a deputy is expected to be OK after being shot in the head early Thursday morning while responding to a possible robbery at an apartment complex on Boling Road Extension in Taylors, reports WALB.
Loftis said the 911 call came in around 1 a.m. from a woman who heard what may have been a gunshot from a nearby apartment and feared someone was hurt.
Deputies arrived and identified themselves, but got no response from inside the apartment.
"They knocked several times on the door identifying themselves as Greenville County Sheriff's Office, and got no response," Loftis said. "At that point they forced entry into the apartment and saw a male standing there with a gun pointed at them."
The man fired one shot, striking one deputy in the head. Another deputy fired back at the suspect to eliminate the threat. The suspect was killed.
The injured deputy was rushed to Greenville Memorial Hospital and was undergoing surgery around 4:30 a.m., Mueller said.
SWAT was activated and K-9s were called in to search the area near Spring Grove Apartments, but the search was called off after no further threats were discovered.
The deputy who shot the suspect was placed on administrative duty and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division was called in to investigate the shooting per department policy, Loftis said.
