It happened around 9:20 p.m. Sunday in the area of 20th and Arapahoe streets.
Denver officers received a call about 30 minutes prior to that time. Commander Ron Saunier says the call was vague and hard to understand, but the caller did threaten to shoot any officers that came near him. Police were unable to get more information over the phone about why the person called.
Denver Police went to the scene. As officers arrived, they saw a man standing on a third-floor balcony, and soon after saw what appeared to be a sawed-off shotgun.
They gave the suspect multiple orders to drop his weapon, but according to police, the man appeared to point his gun toward them.
One of the officers then fired at the suspect multiple times.
The suspect is expected to survive, 9 News reports.
