A Collingdale, PA, man is being charged with attempted first degree murder and assault on a law enforcement officer after reportedly tossing a Molotov cocktail at Delaware County sheriff’s officers and setting a sergeant on fire Wednesday afternoon, reports CBS.
Sheriff Mary McFall-Hopper says Sgt. Nicholas Maraini was at the door of Jeromy Jones' home serving a probation warrant, when “he opened the door, threw out a incendiary device that hit Sgt. Maraini, and he caught on fire.”
Fellow officers threw Maraini to the ground and rolled him to put out the flames. He was rushed to Crozer Chester Medical Center where he was treated for second and third degree burns.
The suspect charged with throwing a Molotov cocktail at a Delaware County Sheriff’s deputy who was trying to serve a warrant on him in Collingdale has been arraigned on attempted murder charges,
Jones was charged with attempted first degree murder and assault on a law enforcement officer and other related charges. Following arraignment Jones was remanded to the George W. Hill Correctional Facility after failing to post $1 million cash bail. He faces a preliminary hearing scheduled on August 22, reports the Delaware County Daily Times.
"I didn’t meant it," Jones said as he was led into court Thursday morning.
Sgt. Maraini was released Thursday afternoon and is now recovering at home.
