A lot of people loved Tchula, MS, Police Chief Kenneth Hampton's in-your-face way of policing. He was tough. He didn't pull any punches. He called you out on social media.
Obviously, some people probably didn't like that too much. On Wednesday, multiple reports said that Hampton had submitted his resignation to the Tchula Board of Aldermen. He told WLBT's Mary Grace Eppes that he had been pressured to resign.
Hampton made statewide headlines with his Facebook posts, in which he was direct, and sometimes people criticized him for being profane. But his point was always clear, reports the Clarion Ledger.
He would call the alleged crooks "The Three Stooges" and a "dumb a—." He once posted a picture of himself pointing to the camera with his right hand while holding on to a handcuffed robbery suspect with his left. The caption said: "Your a- - is next."
Hampton spent 14 years in the Marines as a diesel mechanic and a recruiter. He joined the Tchula Police Department in the summer of 2014 as a patrol officer. He was promoted in September 2015 after the chief who hired him, Anthony Jones, died in a four-vehicle accident.
