Michigan Detective Shot, Seriously Wounded Serving Cold Case Warrant
State Police Detective Sgt. Aaron Steensma of the Marshall Post was shot in the chest while serving a search warrant at a residence in Union City in a cold case investigation. He was listed in serious but stable condition at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, according to Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue, director of state police.
The most seriously wounded of two Michigan State Police officers is recovering in a west Michigan hospital after a suspect opened fire with a long gun Wednesday morning at a residence about 20 miles south of Battle Creek.
The suspect in the case is dead, although state police weren't saying how he or she died or providing any other details, the Detroit Free Press reports.

The other wounded officer, Trooper Daniel Thayer, was shot in the chest and hand, but the round that struck Thayer in the chest was stopped by his ballistic vest, state police said in the news release. All MSP personnel were wearing body armor at the time of the incident, the agency said.
