Mentor, OH, Police Officer Mathew Mazany was helping a fellow LEO during a traffic stop early Sunday morning when he was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver, according to ODMP.
Mazany was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Mentor police said one person was taken into custody but it wasn’t immediately clear if the person in custody was the driver who struck and killed the officer.
Officer Mazany had served with the Mentor Police Department for 14 years. He is survived by his son, father, and brother.
