NYPD Union Chief Calls on Lawmakers to Fix 'Broken' Parole System

New York Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Lynch called on state lawmakers to fix what he said was a "broken" parole system that has allowed killers to walk free.

New York Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Lynch called on state lawmakers to fix what he said was a "broken" parole system that has allowed killers to walk free.

Earlier this year Herman Bell—a former Black Liberation Army member who spent four decades in prison for the murders of two New York City police officers—was freed despite protests by the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association urging the state parole board to reconsider its decision.

Lynch made the comments at a state Senate Republican committee hearing looking into the Parole Board, according to the New York Daily News.

There are currently 59 prisoners convicted of murdering New York City police officers appearing regularly before the Parole Board.
