Earlier this month, three law enforcement agencies in Kentucky participated in an annual event—the Lexington Polar Plunge fundraiser—to support Special Olympics that put some officers in some very, very cold water.
Officers from the University of Kentucky Police Department raised $2,472 for year-round sports training and athletic competitions for 8,900 athletes in Kentucky with intellectual disabilities.
According to the University of Kentucky, nine UKPD police officers jumped into the frigid water.
The Madison County Sheriff's Office raised $3,258, and the Richmond Police Department raised nearly $800 for Special Olympics Kentucky.
The total donations collected from the event in Kentucky was more than $6,000.
