California’s top prosecutor agreed with Sacramento County Dist. Atty. Anne Marie Schubert that no charges were warranted against two Sacramento police officers who fatally shot Stephon Clark in March 2018.

California’s top prosecutor declined to file charges Tuesday against two Sacramento police officers who fatally shot Stephon Clark in March 2018, reports the Los Angeles Times.

At a Sacramento news conference, Atty. Gen. Xavier Becerra released an independent review of the shooting, finding that the officers acted lawfully when they fired 20 shots at Clark after he fled into his grandmother’s backyard.

Clark was struck at least seven times and died on the scene, according to an investigation.

Becerra agreed with Sacramento County Dist. Atty. Anne Marie Schubert that no charges were warranted.
