Off-Duty Officer Saves Man from Massive Home Explosion
An off-duty police officer was in the right place at the right time when a home in Ridgefield (NJ) suddenly exploded, leaving a man injured.
An off-duty police officer was in the right place at the right time when a home in Ridgefield, NJ, suddenly exploded, leaving a man injured.
According to CBS News, Deputy Chief David Brierty said that the resident was removed prior to the arrival of first responders by an off-duty police officer.
"We had to hold off fire suppression operations due to an active gas leak. Once the leak was taken care of by PSEG, we were able to extinguish the fire," Brierty said.
Video footage of the scene taken by the CBS News helicopter showed the house to be virtually gone from the lot.
The man suffered burns and lacerations but is listed in stable condition at a nearby hospital. The off-duty police officer wasn't injured.
