Shoplifter Armed with Edged Weapons Attacks Minnesota Officer

A woman armed with a screwdriver and a knife reportedly attacked an officer with the St. Paul Police Department.

A woman armed with a screwdriver and a knife reportedly attacked an officer with the St. Paul (MN) Police Department on Monday.

According to ABC News, Officer Joe Ryan was attempting to help a woman return items she was accused of stealing from a local supermarket when the subject unleashed an attack, according to a criminal complaint.

The officer's body armor prevented the screwdriver from wounding him, but Ryan did sustain an injury to his arm from the knife, said a police spokesman.

The assailant—identified as 23-year-old Articia Moore—has been charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, assault on a peace officer and obstructing legal process.
