The United States Supreme Court on Monday declined to review the case against former Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca, opening the door for the disgraced ex-lawman to be remanded to one of the jails he once oversaw.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the High Court also denied a request by Baca's attorneys to have another hearing before the 9th Circuit.
The dual rulings all but eliminate any remaining avenues for Baca—who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease—to remain a free man.
U.S. District Judge Percy Anderson—who sentenced Baca—is now expected to set a date when the former lawman must begin serving his sentence.
