An officer with the Kansas City (MO) Police Department fatally shot a man who was suspected of being under the influence of PCP when he pointed a weapon at him on Wednesday evening, authorities said.
According to the Associated Press, police said officers had responded to a call of man who had reportedly been smoking PCP before turning violent in a home, causing a woman to call police.
Arriving officers attempted to deploy less-than-lethal "beanbang" rounds as the subject refused commands to put down the gun he was holding, according to a police press release. Officers then opened fire when the man pointed the gun at them, the release said.
The man was transported to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
No officers were reported to be injured in the incident.
